Make More Money on Hubpages by Using Google Search Engine Optimization

Whether you are concentrating on traffic from other search engines or Google, search engine optimization will definitely increase your Hubpages earnings. If you are like most of us here at Hubpages, you would like to make extra money as well as publish your favorite articles, so now is the time to start using Google search engine optimization and boost your affiliate earnings.

The very first step in Google search engine optimization is keyword research, in fact you need to do your keyword research before you even write an article. The reason for this is that keyword research will show you how many people search for your keyword or keyword phrase on a monthly basis. It will also show you the pay per click cost that advertisers pay on average to advertise that specific keyword or phrase. This gives you an idea of how large your target audience will be, along with ideas for choosing more expensive keywords which will pay you better when someone clicks on your adsense ads.

For doing keyword research you will need a research tool, there are several expensive programs out there for doing keyword research, but if you are only using it for writing articles on Hubpages, you can get by with just using the free Google Keyword Research Tool. One of the great tools that expensive programs provide is the number of people competing for that phrase in Google. To do this without an expensive tool, you can just type into your Google search box, your keyword phrase inside of quotation marks, this will show you the amount of businesses competing to get to number one in the Google search. So using this method along with the Google keyword research tool will give you an absolutely free way to find out about 75% if the information an expensive software program would give, the great thing about the software programs is that all the information is right there for you, all in one place. The more expensive programs out there will show you a lot more specific information, such as the estimated intent of visitors that want to actually buy the product you are discussing. Many of these programs do offer free trials, and if you are doing more marketing than just writing articles on Hubpages you should try some of the free trials to get an idea of all the amenities they provide users. Google search engine optimization begins with doing your keyword research, once you have found the keyword you want to focus on in your article it is time to begin writing your article.

Google Search Engine Optimization:

Okay, so you have chosen your keyword that you want to write your article about...now it is time to include Google search engine optimization in the content of your article. First things first, you need to make sure that your exact keyword or keyword phrase, is used in your title. This is the very first place that Google spiders will look to see what your article should be about. The second place that Google spiders will look is your summary, I try to mention my keyword phrase twice in every summary.

Next you need to concentrate on using your keyword phrase in every paragraph of your article, this will help the Google spiders to recognize that your article is definitely relevant to the subject that your title says it is about. Your keyword density should be close to 2%, but try not to exceed this percentage or your article will look and sound very spammy. 2% keyword density means that your article has your keyword mentioned 2% of the time, in other words...if your article is 1000 words long, you should mention your keyword phrase 20 times. I try to emphasize my keyword at least once in each paragraph by using bold, italicize, or underline to really capture the fact that this is what my article in about. For instance, this article is about Google search engine optimization so you can see that it sticks out for the Google spiders to see that this article is extremely relevant to Google search engine optimization. When the Google spiders recognize the relevance that your article has, they can rank you in Google search, but also this helps them to determine which Adsense ads to display on your hub.

Why do you need to do this? Because without using search engine optimization your article has very little chance of getting noticed by Google. If your article is not ranked high in Google searches you will get very little traffic to your article other than other hubbers. I know that many authors here at Hubpages write for the joy of expressing themselves and not for money or commercial intent, but why not utilize Google search engine optimization to get your articles read by more people out there in the world? If you truly do not believe in receiving money for your contributions that is fine, you do not need to use Adsense or any other affiliates, but I would hope that you would want as many people as possible to recognize your skills as an author.

Okay, I know this is just the very basics of Google search engine optimization, and I am no where near a guru or expert in the field, but I see a lot of hubbers wanting to earn more money from their hubs and search engine optimization is the way to go. So start doing your research and making more money from Hubpages, I wish you all the best!

informative article.

maybe you can help me with google ad sense. I seem to be in a catch 22.

I start the sign up process and there is no indication that there is a username/password that I use for adsense.

However, after I fill in all the information I am told there is a username/password and I can't open my adsense account.

As great as google is, I have found their personal touch leaves a lot to be lacking, and if your problem isn't found in faqs, you are sunk.

any suggestions

Hi Keith, you are very correct about Google's personal touch being lacking. Many people get banned from the Adsense program without so much as an explanation and once you are banned, there is no coming back because you will never even get a Google representative to talk to you.

As per your case...did you sign up years ago? or have you never had an adsense account? I am not sure if I can help or not with so many questions popping to mind. If you have never had an adsense account I would certainly suggest trying to sign up for a new account, if you encounter the same problems, you can ask for a password change, but if you do not know the email address for the account that could be an impossible task also. If all else fails, you may need to use someone else's adsense ID, whether this be your wife or other family member, many banned accounts have had to go this route.

I am sure this is not much help, but it's about the extent that I know about adsense accounts at this time. Good Luck.

Keith,

You can go here https://www.google.com/adsense/g-app-single-1 after you fill in your information and go to the next screen you will be asked if you already have a google account such as at gmail or if you would like to create one. If you have a gmail account already you can check the box if not click the create new account box and go to the next step. That should get you through it and you should have no problem getting execpted since you have been blogging for a good amount of time and have quite a few hubs up.

Hope that helps.

Very helpful article, though, I am still confused. It is definitely a start and will bookmark it but still have many questions. How many unique key words should I have per article? Should my article be based around one key word? Please help! Thanks.

Hi Rubes,

Thanks for the comment, to attempt to answer your questions...the fewer the keywords targeted, the better your chance of ranking. Of course this in large part depends on the competition involved when it comes to your keywords. You could include 4 long tailed keyword phrases and get ranked for them all because they have very little competition, or target one keyword with lots of competition and never see the top 10 pages in Google. So you really need to do your research on the keywords you target and remember that the lower the exact search phrase count, the better odds you have of ranking. Now, just to throw a monkeywrench into the works, you also need to look at who is holding the top page ranking of Google for the term you are targeting, if the first page is all new posts and companies with very little backlinks...you stand a good chance of getting a good position, but if you are up against 10 year old dot com names with 12000 backlinks...it will be decidedly tougher to rank for. Either way, you need to make sure that you do some heavy bookmarking of your articles to try to get to and hold a good position. Okay, I hope this helps, I think it is long enough...LOL.

Great advice. I'm going to bold and underline the keywords in my blog.

Thanks for the comment scheng1, it really helps the spiders to determine relevancy, especially if you are going for more than one keyword repeated many times over and over and over...LOL.

Thanks for the advice

I've never actually paid attention to keyword research when writing my articles, will try to focus more than that in the future :)

deutsched, you will be shocked at the amount of searches that a slightly different keyword can return. Now days, I do my keyword research long before I decide what I want to write about and how to present it. Some "gurus" claim that keyword research is the most boring part of becoming an internet marketer, and I must disagree, I love the research. Spending 8 hours to uncover hidden niche keywords that I know will make me money is an absolute delight for me. Doing your keyword research will also give you a better idea of what keywords you can make the most money from adsense with, and that is my primary income!

Good luck with all your endeavors, and remember to have fun with your research.

I hear you outdoorguy38. I follow a relatively strict on page SEO strategy and although I don't have a strict keyword density. I thoroughly perform keyword and competition research in my chosen niche topics as well as making sure my content provides the best reader valuable as possible.

Enjoy the ride!

hi,

This is very useful article for me but still i have some questions in my mind as i am a new member. I have been writing articles for a person who knew the techniques of search Engine optimization and he used to tell me the number of Keywords and their density per article.

But the main thing I want to ask you now is that can I have a Google ad-sense account without writing a single article or do I need to write good quality articles or hubs first and then apply for ad-sense account? Help me!

Regards,

Amin Khalid
